Cub Scout Pack 702 was re-coordinated in 2004 in the town of Groton. Young boys between the ages of 7 and 11 years participate in this fun and exciting experience. The purpose of the Boy Scouts of America—incorporated on February 8, 1910, and chartered by Congress in 1916—is to provide an educational program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness.
The Groton Methodist Church serves as the Charter Organization for the Pack. It is in the church that monthly pack meetings are held. The Pack is broken into Dens by age. Tiger Cubs are in the first grade or 6-7 years old. The Wolves are in the second grade (7-8 yrs). The Bears are in third grade (8-9). The Webelos are in the fourth & fifth grades. The Webelos will move into the Boy Scout Program and Troop 702 as they enter the sixth grade. Dens meet weekly with volunteer adult leaders trained by the BSA Council.
The Pack may be seen at events in and outside of our area giving the children opportunity for educational and personal growth. We are involved in many Community Service Projects. During the summer months Pack 702 will be helping citizens with their recycling at the Ryegate/Groton Recycle Center in East Ryegate between 8-10am on Saturday mornings. The Cub Scouts collect redeemable bottles and cans at the center earning ‘nickles’ to put toward pack expenses as they learn about recycling and helping other people.

Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three membership divisions. (The others are Boy Scouting and Venturing.)
The 10 purposes of Cub Scouting are:
1. Character Development
2. Spiritual Growth
3. Good Citizenship
4. Sportsmanship and Fitness
5. Family Understanding
6. Respectful Relationships
7. Personal Achievement
8. Friendly Service
9. Fun and Adventure
10. Preparation for Boy Scouts
