Leonard called the meeting to order at 7:05 PM.

 

Correspondence and Selectboard minutes were reviewed. Leonard made the motion to accept the April 20, 2006 minutes with corrections. David seconded the motion. 

 

David questioned if the turnout gear was put into the fire department’s budget?  Leonard answered yes.

Linda Nunn gave the Selectboard a resolution received for Firemen and the EMTs from the House of Representatives.

 

Donald Schmidt questioned if William Putnam would be at the Selectboard meeting? Linda answered that William couldn’t make the meeting and he was waiting for a call from Brian Hanson from NVDA.

Donald Schmidt would like to be put on the Selectboard agenda for May 18th.

 

Wayne Knott addressed the concerns of false alarms and having an ordinance to go by for this matter.

Wayne addressed lockboxes for the multi-family dwellings that Gilman Housing has revitalized in town.

Wayne: the alarms will be worked on Monday and Tuesday next week.

Leonard requested that Wayne contact someone from Gilman Housing to discuss what type of lock boxes they have used in some of their buildings.

 

Wayne filled the Selectboard in on the summer cadet training and the BMU Fire school training.

Wayne: working on getting more dry hydrants put in possible sites Coldwater Brook and near William Putnam’s land.

 

David questioned if there were any grants available to help fund the dry hydrants construction?

 Roberta: we have the grant money that came in January of this year.

 

Linda: need to purchase two Land Record books and recording paper.

Linda: BMU Varsity Baseball Team looking to do community service, is there anything the Selectboard would like them to do?

Leonard maybe they could help clean up around the Community Building on May 25th.

 

Roberta:  Recreation committee has received donations.  Where are they?  All funds given to the Town or any Town departments should be turned over to the Town Treasurer.

 

VDCP grant funds were taken care of today.

 

Leonard requested that Roberta draw up a letter directing how funds should be handled then the Selectboard will sign it.

 

Roberta: very little increase in the dental insurance coverage.  New payroll deduction authorizations were put in employee’s mail.

 

Brent: pricing chloride for roads.

Brent: need to get front tires for Phillip’s truck.

Brent: burning the stump dump, need to get someone with a dozer to push it back and then use left over material from Mt. Ara to help firm up the area.

 

Brent: driveway permit for Troy Oliver is alright.

Brent: need to update the driveway/curb cut form as it is a (3) three part process.

Selectboard requested Brent do the updates.

Brent: Mike Jennings can do the training for the Fire Department and Elected Officials for the ICS- Leadership training. A time will need to be setup for the training. Need to have most of the training done by October/November.

 

Roadside mowing bid was opened, Debra made the motion to accept Ken Williams’ bid. Leonard seconded the motion. Ken Williams received the bid for $3,000.00.

 

Town property mowing bids were opened. Leonard made the motion to go with Jonathan Ruppert d/b/a John’s Yard Service for $ 2,800.00. Debra seconded the motion.

 

Debra said she would close the checking account she had set up last year for the recreation committee funds and bring Roberta a check.

 

David explained the letter’s being sent out requesting proposals along with a scope of work for the Town of Groton engineering studies for the Community Building and the Fire Station. Warren Tripp was requesting the Selectboard to set date for the information to come back.  David made the motion to have Warren Tripp set the dates. Leonard seconded the motion, Debra agreed.

 

David made the motion to make the Groton Recreation Fishing Program, Groton Foliage Race and the Groton Greenup/ Cleanup a town function. Leonard seconded the motion.

Leonard explained about the handling of funds.

Roberta will open a checking account for the recreation reserve funds.

 

Olivia Beleau will be invited to the Selectboard meeting for an update on sidewalk project.

 

Leonard made the motion to adjourn; Debra seconded the motion.

Orders were signed in the amount of $ 7,568.44.

 

Meeting adjourned at 9:20 PM.
