Groton partners with Ryegate in operating a Recycling Center at 369 School St. East Ryegate (directions below).

OPEN FRIDAYS 3PM-6PM & SATURDAYS 8AM-12PM

The Groton/Ryegate Center is operated by volunteers from Ryegate and Groton.

Household Trash Bags: Pete’s Rubbish Removal service collects bagged trash at the Ryegate Recycling Center on Saturday mornings for a fee.

Groton and Ryegate are part of the Northeast Kingdom Waste Management District (NEKWMD) which operates a large processing facility in Lyndonville.  The material collected at the Ryegate center is periodically transported to Lyndonville where it is combined with material from 35 other towns of the Northeast Kingdom and sold.

If you are interested in volunteering several hours a month at the recycle center, please ask at the Recycle Center.

Directions from Groton to the Groton/Ryegate Recycling Center in East Ryegate

Short, Scenic Route

  1. 1 mile East of Groton on Route 302, turn left onto Witherspoon Rd.
  2. Go 4.5 miles to the end of Witherspoon Rd. (is Ryegate Center)
  3. Turn left onto N. Bayley-Hazen Road and right immediately onto East Rd.
  4. Go 2.2 miles to the end of East Rd. Turn left onto Ryegate Rd (Route 5 N).
  5. Go 0.6 mile to Papermill Rd (is East Ryegate).
  6. Turn right onto Papermill and immediately right onto School St.
  7. Go 0.3 mile on School St to the Recycle Center.

Long Route

  1. Go 10 miles East of Groton on Route 302 to Route 5 in Wells River.
  2. Turn left (north) on Route 5. Go 4.1 miles to Papermill Rd (is East Ryegate).
  3. Turn right onto Papermill Rd and immediately right onto School St.
  4. Go 0.3 mile on School St to the Recycle Center.

HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL

Groton and Ryegate residents can dispose of hazardous waste free by appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Septmenber at NEK Waste Management District, 224 Church Street, Lyndonville VT. Call 802-626-3532 for appointments or information.

BULKY WASTE DROP

Drop off is now offered as a standard service at the Recycling Center during their normal hours of operation. There will no longer be Bulky Waste Days in Groton and Ryegate. For more information, see the Ryegate Recycling Guide.

WINDOW DRESSERS PROGRAM

Non-profit Window Dressers Insulating Window Inserts let in light while stopping drafts.
